Froggy, 2nd from the left, and his band Waxhead, in a state of nature. Why he's called Froggy we don't know, but the drummer's called Begg and the bassist's called Moffo, so go figure.
Jordy Smith's Prison Experience
Everyone suffers bad falls at Teahupoo, but Jordy Smith perhaps more than most. At the 2011 Billabong Pro he cracked four ribs and missed the next two events as a result, which effectively ended his challenge for the title that year; then last year he underwent what he described as the worst wipeout of his life:
“I’m just happy to be alive. Nothing else matters right now, as for a moment I thought it was all over. It was easily the most scared I have ever been in the ocean.”
During the 2009 contest, meanwhile, he was intruded upon by a sudden spurt of water — which should give you some idea of the power and intensity of the Chopes impact zone. “I don’t want to go to prison that’s for sure… if that’s what it feels like, I don’t want to go,” he said afterwards.
