It’s the kind of coincidence that will probably make people say, “you just couldn’t have scripted it, could you?” when what they really mean is, “if you were to write the most bleedingly obvious script you could think of, that’s exactly how you would have scripted it.” Of course it’s entirely possible that someone did script it.

Mick Fanning’s first time back in the water since the J-Bay final earlier this month was filmed for the TV show 60 Minutes Australia, and was apparently interrupted by the appearance of yet another shark. This time there was no “encounter”, but nevertheless Mick was once again forced, in the immortal words of Joe Turpel, to “get back on the ski and reset”. Having just had a run-in with a sizeable great white, Fanning could be forgiven for spotting the odd imaginary shark or two in the line-up, which is perhaps exactly what happened here — but even back on the beach he claims to see the fin once again, and besides, hamming it up for the cameras isn’t really his style.

The above video is a 60 second trailer for the full show, which is due to be screened in full this coming Sunday. We ought to warn you it features the words, “You won’t believe what happens…” — although in this case their use is perhaps more justifiable than usual.
