If you’re familiar with the Nic von Rupp oeuvre, you’ll be aware he has a penchant for big swells and meat grinder tubes. His My Road series set the tone a couple years back, and since then has only gone on to greater and greater heights.

His latest, Reef Road, marks a whole new direction. Telling a story about two different souls and their very different yet somehow intertwined adventures in the Indonesian archipelago, there’s more than just wave porn in this beautifully shot 20 min film.

We liked it so much we went to the world premiere in San Sebastian, got drunk on Hurley’s tab, and then invited Nic on to the next episode of the Surf Europe podcast, coming next week.

He’s hit the big time.
