FREDDY P ‘UP YOUR MOUTH’

The most interesting thing to happen this year on tour occurred yesterday when Freddy P launched into a tirade about the beach commentators at Bells. Despite having got through, Fred was outraged at the level of bias in the live commentators’ remarks in favour of Owen Wright. Fred become the second surfer to launch an outburst at the powers that be this year after Jeremy Flores blasted the judges after losing to Dane at Snapper.

This is not the first time Freddy P has spat fire. An occasional freestyle MC , I saw him once do the lyrical lexicon, the matador metaphor in Dick’s Sand Bar Hossegor, where he opened up with ‘My name’s Freddy P, I’m from Hawaii.’ live on the mic. It was one of the best turns of phrase by a sportsman since John Barnes’ ‘You’ve got to hold and give, but do it at the right time…’ before Italia 90. Anyway, here’s Fred’s interview.

SE is still awaiting confirmation, but this might be the first time ‘up their mouth’ has appeared in English, usually overlooked in favour of ‘up the arse’ or ‘down their throat’. The ASP fined Fred 1000 dollars as his tirade went out live on TV.
