Greg Webber has been working on the concept of a perfect artificial wave for more than a decade and seems to getting closer and closer to his holy grail. Initially inspired by the wake of river boats he aims to have a function wave park up and ready by end of 2013. A recent test here below at shows what Webber Wave Pools ultimately want to create.

Webber says of the test, “This is just to show the mechanical and yet controllable nature of our wave making method. We will be creating four totally different types of waves in each complex. Mechanically perfect unchanging shape, random, the wave that doubles in height and the speed ramp for aerials. And they all share one vital quality… they have a trough. No trough no power.”

But its only three inches high I hear you say. Webber isn’t fazed: “When one of our key investors asked the engineer running the tests, about scaling up, he pointed to the hundred or so scale models of the military and racing hulls lining the walls, stuff that they have tested over the last decades and said, ‘when they built them full scale, all of these hulls did exactly as predicted, it’s all known now,’ Nice.”

Time will tell, but for now we can look at the perfect peelers and dream.
