As Hurricane Ophelia romped up Biscay towards Ireland, causing chaos, she also generated thick belts of swell to south west France. Last Tuesday in Hossegor, a crew of locals pulled out their rhino chasers and sat on the edge of the deep water trench at a spot known as La Nord. With boomers out the back on low water, and shorebreak carnage at La Centrale on high, the entire day — blessed with 30 degree weather and offshore winds — served up the goods for lensman Pietro Franca.
