OLI ADAMS – WHAT ARE YOU ON?

“These shots were taken at my house over the road from Fistral, I keep most of my boards in the house but I love to come an tinker out here.” Photos: Ben Selway. From Left to right:

5’11, 18 1/2, 2 1/4 – This is one of my models with Toyfactory, the ‘Ripshred’. It’s the first board I got from these guys and it’s absolute magic! Just a really good all round beach break board that works from 1 to 5 foot.

5’9, 18 1/2, 2 1/4  – This is the another of my Toyfactory models, the ‘Nu school’. It’s a real different board with a normal shortboard tail but has a wider, kind of rounder nose. It goes mental in small waves but I’ve ridden it in barrels and because there is a bit of foam under your chest it means you can get into waves easier. And it feels great having such a short board in the pit as you can play with your speed and placement in the barrel way more.

6’1, 18 1/4, 2 1/4 – This is another Toyfactory ‘Ripshred’ but scaled up to a normal shortboard. I don’t really ride shortboards unless it’s winter or I go on a trip somewhere good so this one is on ice at the minute but I know that when called upon it will deliver the goods.

5’11, 18 1/2, 2 1/4 – This is a copy of my first magic Toyfactory 5’11 ‘Ripshred’ but with a lighter US blank and jazzy spray, I didn’t think it could be better than the first but somehow it is. It’s just got that magic ping that you get from the top shapers like Mayhem and Bradley. Lee Bartlett and Luke Hart are right up there in my opinion.

7’8, 18 1/4, 2 3/8

This is an Eric Arawkawa Gun I got years ago in Hawaii for big Sunset. The first year I went there it was massive all the time and I was under gunned so many sessions out there. So I got this the first week into my next winter over there and for three more trips over there it never got big enough to use it… ha ha! It gathered dust under a lady called Rex’s house at Rocky point for a few years but last year I decided to bring her home and I christened her at 5 foot north Fistral for a laugh. Still waiting for the day but not sure where or when it will come as we haven’t really got any waves like Sunset around here.

5’11, 18 7/8, 2 1/2

This is a Toyfactory ‘T.O.A.D’ model, it’s my slab hunter for heavy British and Irish 2 to 6 foot slabs. I haven’t surfed it yet but it looks perfect for what I want and I can’t wait for winter to get acquainted with her. I was inspired to get something like this after staying with Ferg and Lowey last year and seeing what they were riding at Rileys. It’s like squashing a gun into a small board so you get the paddling power to get in earlier but the board fits into the barrel better once you’re in there. Probably more excited than I’ve ever been to ride this board as I’ve never ridden anything like it. I think it will change the way I ride heavy barrels, I’ve just got a 6’4 version too for 6 to 10 foot yeah!!!!
