VANS US OPEN OF SURFING – DAY 3

Yesterday saw the final heats of Round 2 go down at Huntington Beach. It’s not exactly been world class surf but that’s not discouraged the Euro contingent, all of whom progressed through to the next round.

But it was Jordy Smith who notched up the biggest heat score with some powerful forehand rail work, riding a new board to adjust to the slower conditions.

“I think the trick out there is really just catching waves because there aren’t many of them at the moment. You don’t have to do a whole lot out there to get big scores and just have to look like you’re not fighting the wave. Conditions are really tough and I knew I needed a wider board. It ended up working out,” offered Jordy in his post heat interview.

Don’t forget you can check out heats on demand for all the action without the waiting around.
