Chalk up another event victory for Glen “Micro” Hall.
Earlier on today in Western Australia, Tyler Wright blitzed Courtney Conlogue in the final of the Drug Aware Pro Margaret River to win her second world tour event of the year. It was a powerful, heavy-footed, ungainly sort of affair, as you might expect of a Margarets final, especially one between these two competitors. It was ultimately a one-sided affair too; Conlogue struggled all heat for momentum, while Wright followed up an early 8.93 with two 9s and a further 8 for good measure. It was the second time they’ve met in a final this season, and the second time Wright has emerged victorious, but the Australian nonetheless trails Conlogue at the top of the ratings by 800 points.
Something of a pattern is starting to emerge in the women’s division. Courtney Conlogue has now reached the final of every event so far, Carissa Moore has stumbled at the semi-finals on three successive occasions, and Steph Gilmore remains unable to advance beyond the quarters or to win a heat in a no-losers round. Meanwhile, Glen Hall has coached the winner at four of the five world tour events — men’s and women’s — completed so far this year.
