The 28th edition of Sooruz Lacanau Pro, presented by PlayStation, takes place from the 9th to the 19th of August, in Lacanau (France-Gironde 33) attracting the best surfers in the world. This important stage of the world surfing championship is a springboard for the new surfing champions, as well as for new musical groups.
Since it was created in 1979, the Sooruz Lacanau Pro gives the opportunity to discover new talents among the surfers coming from all over the world to brave the French waves. In 1994, Kelly Slater confirmed his superiority by taking the first place on the podium before taking the title of world champion the same year.
More recently, young prodigy Jeremy Flores, to displayed his talents by making the finals in 2006 and qualifying for the WCT. Lacanau-born Adrien Valéro, became well known for eliminating US surfer Rob Machado. At 19 years old, he is among the best French juniors, and this year his aim is to challenge the Australian title holder of the Oakley Pro Junior, Mitchell Coleborn.
New for this year is the Oakley Femme Junior event. This junior women’s comp takes place in each region of the ASP (Association of Surfing professional) in order to select the two best surfers who will compete in the next world championship which takes place this year in Narabeen (Australia).
Among the competitors, all aged under 21, are four French favourites: Pauline Ado (world junior champion), Alizée Arnaud, Lee Ann Curren (Junior European champion in 2006) and Justine Dupont, born in Lacanau.
The surfing competition can be seen daily on the central beach in Lacanau with numerous festivities from sunset, including music from new bands in Ska, Rock or Reggae.
