Embodying the aloha spirit whole heartedly, Makuakai is a renaissance man. Known to most as a world class surfer (he won the XXL Pro at age 18), Makuakai is also an accomplished free diver and fisherman, hunter, MMA expert, musician (he recently played ukulele at a benefit concert in Israel) and all round master of many trades.
Born and bred into an elite group of North Shore surfers, having Eddie Rothman (Hawaiian luminary) as his father, 23 year old Makuakai has already made his mark on the world of surfing at a young age.
This past year was especially successful for Makuakai, having started 2007 by winning the Tow-In Championships, and ending the year with a win at the Triple Crown of Surfing, six-star prime O’Neill World Cup event at Sunset Beach.
A man of great contrast, Makuakai truly personifies RVCA’s brand philosophy, ‘the balance of opposites’. “Makuakai is the complete package” says RVCA Founder and Creative Director, PM Tenore. “His lifestyle, his attitude, the way he surfs and above all the way he carries himself, it’s a perfect embodiment of the RVCA brand and everything we stand for”.
Coming on board at RVCA, Makuakai is most excited about connecting with a brand at a deeper level. Already having started design on the Makuakai signature board short for the RVCA Holiday 08 collection, he is lending his own tastes and inspirations to RVCA. “I chose RVCA because I like the styling of the line.” “I am physiqued to be a part of the Team at RVCA.”
Proud to welcome Makuakai Rothman to the RVCA family, it seems that the future is bright for all involved. What’s next… you’ll have to keep watching, so stay tuned.
