The Oxbow World Longboard Championship will take place from April 30th to May 6th 2007, at Anglet on the Basque Coast.
The competition has been organised with the support of the International Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) and will be the key longboarding rendezvous for 2007.
Not only is this a prestigious event by name but a healthy prize purse of $50,000 will raise the profile even further. The contest will attract the best riders in the world, from Duane de Soto to Antoine Delpero, not to mention the current world champion Josh Constable and former world champions Joel Tudor, Bonga Perkins and Colin McPhillips.
Two of surfings legends will also be attending the competition. The 1966 World Champion Nat Young, a long standing ambassador for the sport and creator of the long board World Championships will be joined by the famous big wave rider, Laird Hamilton. Laird will also be demonstrating ‘Stand up Paddling’ a distant relative of long boarding but integral part of its spiritual history.
The Basque Coast, south-west France provides some of Europe’s finest surfing and the town of Anglet is an ideal setting for the competition.
Oxbow has had a long running relationship with boardsports and has committed itself to the creation of a Long Board World Tour over the next three years.
