The women’s Word Qualifying Series tour can already count on another major event for 2007. The Rip Curl Boardmasters, in conjunction with ASP International, just announced an increase in the number of stars for the women’s event.
Initially planned to be a 3 Star WQS, the Association of Surfing Professionals, Sportvision and Rip Curl joined forces and managed to come to a very positive decision for the sport. The Rip Curl Newquay Boardmasters will host a Women’s 5 Star WQS and ensure the best female surfers in the world answer the call. Becoming a crucial event in the race to the ASP Women’s World Tour, some high performance wil be much awaited in England, the Newquay being one of the most important stops on the international schedule.
“The upgrade makes the Rip Curl Boardmasters the biggest WQS event in Europe and will no doubt bolster the growing reputation of female talent within the region. With top-tier surfers like Caroline Sarran and up-and-coming threats like Lee Ann Curren emerging from the ASP European program and exhibiting world class potential, the newly-upgraded Rip Curl Boardmasters at Newquay comes at a fitting and exciting time for women’s surfing,” said ASP CEO Brodie Carr.
