Last week Hollywood spread a rumour saying they’d shut down Teahupoo for the filming of Point Break 2 but in actual fact took no legal measures to privatise the session. Subsequently, those locals not involved in the film production still paddled out to see if they couldn’t catch a few. As it turned out, 17-year-old Matahi Drollet (Manoa’s little bro) ended up blowing the film crew away after he found himself on the bomb of the day.

Meanwhile, Australian charger Laurie Towner who was working as stunt double for Luke Bracey (in the role of Johnny Utah) had to be hospitalised when he hit the reef so hard on his third wave he broke his jaw and blacked out. Not exactly what Hollywood had scripted for what must have been an expensive day’s filming, with more that 250 people on site.
