The 2014 WQS Prime series entered the back straight yesterday as the 5th Prime event of 8 in kicked off at Guicho, Cascais, Portugal.

With an unprecedented 27 WCT surfers in the draw, a few Top 100 WQS warriors would have been gutted not to get a slot, with the $50,000 Portuguese Waves Series Cascais Trophy luring the big guns into the dirty business of 4 man beachbreak tear ups.

But the WQS soon had their revenge, with all kinds of big names getting knocked out first heat, among them Taj Burrow and Mick Fanning.
