There was ankle-break and heart-break for Lakey Peterson during a recent session in Ventura, California, when a regulatory backhand re-entry on a waist-high wave was disrupted by some untimely backwash. Last year’s world no. 6 was enveloped in whitewater as she rode out of the close-out section, suffering a broken ankle that puts her out of the forthcoming Roxy Pro Gold Coast.
