The ISA is pleased to announce that the Federacion de Surfing de Puerto Rico (FSPR) has been awarded the rights to host and organize the 2nd edition of the ISA World Masters Surfing Championships.
The ISA World Masters Surfing Championships will take place on the beaches of Rincon, the self-described surfing capital of the Caribbean, in January 20-28, 2007. The event will determine the world’s top surfing nations and award individual titles to the world’s top Masters surfers.
“The event will have a 7-day competition window, right in the middle of the northern hemisphere winter. The Curao.com forecasters will help us identify the best days to run the event, so things looks very promising and we are excited about the idea of scoring epic conditions during the contest.” said Ricardo Lucke, President of the Federacion de Surfing Puerto Rico and organiser of the event.
“Also Rincon-Hangout.com has been selected as the official hangout, travel and live webcast website for the 2007 ISA World Masters Surfing Championships in Rincón, Puerto Rico. For the first time in a surf event in Puerto Rico, the event will be broadcast live on the internet through Rincon-Hangout.com the #1 hangout spot of the surf capital of the Caribbean Rincón, Puerto Rico.
“The ISA is very proud of this event, which clearly fills a vacuum in competitive surfing. Most of the Federations members of the ISA already hold Masters National Championships in their countries. This ISA World Masters Surfing Championship will provide a clear path for those older, yet very active surfers around the world,” said ISA President, Fernando Aguerre.
“Puerto Rico, twice hosts to ISA events in 1968 and 1988, it’s a great surfing destination, with warm waters, very good waves and one of the warmest cultures in the world. This is going to be an historic event,” added Aguerre.
The 2007 ISA World Masters Surfing Championships will bring the best Masters surfers from all over the world to compete as members of their country’s National Master Surfing Team, in the perfect waves of Rincon.
