As much as everyone loves the Hurley Pro at Trestles, the event will have it’s work cut out for it this year as it tries to fill the void that the Billabong Pro Tahiti, the best ASP contest ever run, has inevitably left now that it’s over.
As fun and as rippable as Trestles can be, the wave doesn’t come close to challenging the Top 34 in the way that a wave like Teahupoo does. And as wild as the aerial manoeuvres might be, there’s always those tedious south swell lulls to sit through. Fortunately though, with this year’s title race looking like it will see Gabriel Medina and Kelly face off for either Kelly’s 12th or Medina as first ever Brazilian champion, commentators will have plenty to talk about!
