Due to be released around 15th July, news of Dane’s latest surf craft creation has just hit the market. If you’re a fan of any of his previous designs (i.e. Dumpster Diver, Neck Beard, DFR, Fred Rubble, Sperm Whale), then it’s highly likely you’d like #4.
Of the new model, Channel Islands has this to say:
“A performance based California utility board, the “four” was the fourth board in a series of numbered concept boards built for Dane just prior to the 2012 US Open. Each concept board incorporated a blend of single to double with vee, 13”+ nose and 15”+ tail with a double bump. After a few months of tweaks and refinements, the result is a design that can be ridden in two different dimension sets to dial in the type of waves and conditions you ride.”
Those two dimension sets are the Groveler (which Dane rides in a 5’8” x 19 1/2 a 2 7/16) and a UTILITY (which he rides as a 5’9” 19 1/4 x 2 7/16”).
In more general terms, the board is only suited to intermediate to pro surfers and knee to head high conditions. Channel Islands website also suggests you ride the new model 3”-4” shorter than your height for GROVELER and 2” shorter than your height for UTILITY
So there it is. Dane’s new creation. For further info on specific dimensions, head on over to the Channel Islands website.
