Byron Bay Easter Classic in Memory of Ben King all set

This Easter will once again see surfers from the East Coast of Australia head to Byron Bay to compete in the 32nd Byron Bay Easter Classic in Memory of Ben King, presented by Ocean & Earth. Male and female surfers from 8 to 60 years of age will compete in 9 divisions, to be held over 3 days, commencing Good Friday, April 6th, the finals held on Easter Sunday April 8th.

The event once again is held in the memory of Byron Bay legend, and former president of the Byron Bay Boardriders, Ben King, who passed away suddenly just in 2006.

One of the longest running events in surfing, now in its 32nd year, the event boasts a list of winners including Danny Wills, Kieren Perrow, Richard “Dog” Marsh, Chappy Jennings, Simon Law, Jeremy Byles, Shane Bevan, Jye Gofton, Mark Richardson, Jock Barnes, Shane Wehner, Shaun Gossman, and 2006 champion Yerin Brown.

The event boasts $15,000.00 in cash and prizes; divisions surfed to be Open, Over 30 and over 40 years, Juniors (U/19), Cadets, Fleas, Open and Under 16 Women, plus a legends invitational heat. There is $2,000 in cash up for grabs in the Open Division, with $500 cash for the winner of the Junior Men. Prizes are also to be won in all places of all divisions.

2006 Champion Yerin Brown will be one of many top surfers to beat in an event that has a prestigious honour roll. Ben King’s son Kurt and daughter Maddie will also compete, like their father more than competent competitive surfers, and will hard to beat in any division they choose to compete in. A press launch will be held Thursday the 5th of April 11.00am at the Byron Bay RSL Club. All media are welcome to attend with an invitation to follow.
