At what stage does a surfing photo become an iconic surfing photo? There was a heated argument in the ideas factory that is Surf Europe HQ the other day when I captioned the Parko Slater “Bird” shot as “iconic”. The editor reckoned no one will remember that bird in five years time, let alone 20. I however thought it might just sum up a rivalry that isn’t quite done yet. Anyway it had us thinking iconic. We’ve trawled the net, dug through the archives and came up with a select bunch of surfing images that we think can rightfully be labeled as Iconic.
