Laird Hamilton and Ian Walsh on set for ‘Point Break 2’ at Jaws last week

The biggest it’s broken since 2009/10, Jaws saw a handful of maniacs rev up their jetskis and tackle what would have been an otherwise unridable XXL swell on Maui last week. Hollywood figured they’d make the most of the occasion to can a few potential stunts for the up-coming remake of Point Break, set to star Gerard Butler as Bohdi. After nearly drowning during the shooting of Chasing Mavericks, rumour has it Butler decided to stay on the boat this time and leave the stunts to Ian Walsh, Billy Kemper, Ahanu Tson-Dru and Makua Rothman. While Laird Hamilton was also out in the line-up, he wasn’t actually working with the crew. He was just there to surf, despite suffering the worse beating of the whole session. But as reported on Surfline, he did use the opportunity to get back at haters following his Carlos Burle spat:

“It was a good beating, the old teddy bear in the pit bull’s mouth. And to be clear: that was an unsuccessful ride. A big f–king wave, but I’m not proud of it. I mark that down in the failure category.”

The day after this Aaron Gold paddled into this XXL bomb.
