Jayce Robinson Charges Basque Country Gnarl

Currently on an epic winter road trip down through Europe with fellow UK ripper Lyndon Wake, Jayce Robinson made it down to the Basque Country for the latest run of big surf. Having started out in Ireland before making their way across to the Hebrides, east coast slabs and Cornwall, they then hooked up with local big wave tow specialist Axi Muniain on the north coast of Spain where brisk southerly offshore winds did a great job of tidying up the chunky long-interval swell. While there’s a handful of spots that have no trouble handling XXL surf in the Basque Country, they all have a reputation for being relatively fat but that wasn’t the case for last weekend.

“Well I didn’t expect to get so barrelled when we came to Spain, maybe just surf some big waves,” said St Ives’ Jayce Robinson “But it turned out to be one of those special days, one I will remember forever. All the local guys were legends, Axi Muniain showed us the spot and shared his knowledge of the wave, ‘what a legend’ is all I can say… After six hours of joy we had to head in and take a break. Lyndon and I sat on the cliff watching Axi confidently hacking the shit out of 12ft glassy faces for the last hour of light, even with his broken ribs from the last swell. A day like that followed by a couple of San Miguels to finish it off, doesn’t happen that often. I’m still buzzing.”

And if you missed Jayce and Lyndon’s UK leg, it’s right here:
