Miky Picon is nearly there…equal fifth in Lanzarote, the local from Capbreton jumps for the 14th position to the 9th with now clearly one foot in next year Foster’s ASP World tour (actually ASP’s guru Al Hunt said yesterday, monday the 22nd, that it was safe to think that anyone above the 11 000 points mark is IN for 2008…bring out the champagne, congrats Miky!)
The other big news is coming from his long time friend, patrick Beven. Pat recovering from a knee injury that kept him out of the water for three months, probably claimed the most important victory of his career in the Canaries. A huge boost to its confidence level, to its pro career and his WQS rating, putting him back in the hunt for possible requalification. Miky & patrick, both in tears on the podium will fly to Brazil then to hawaii hoping they can both join Flores and Pires.
On the other hand, Aritz didn’t improve his rating and with the points gained by his opponents both in the Canaries and Brazil he has dropped to 14th on the WQS.
Meanwhile in Brazil, Adriano de Souza took the title and Jihad Khodr probably secured his place in next year’s top 45.
just a quick reminder, top 15 qualify for the top 45 and with three surfers in the top 15 already qualified directly on the Foster’s ASP world tour, you can count in the top 18. With only three big events left, Obongo Pro (BRA) and Sunset & Haleiwa on the rock, there is going be plenty of action & drama!!!!!!!!!!!!!
