Back home after a trip to California for the US Open in 2011, Jonathan Gonzalez spotted a rare long-range southern hemisphere swell whose angle looked ideal for a little known right-hand slab in the Canaries. Summer time southern hemi swells in the Canary Islands are known to be a unpredictable and often short-lived. You’ve got to be on it and they’re always a bit of a gamble. In this instance it was a gamble that paid off handsomely for Charly Martin and SE photog Alex Laurel who made the trip from France especially.
