DON’T MAKE ME GO BACK TO:
REUNION ISLAND
Sadly, for surfing anyway. I was never that confident in the water there, especially on my last trip in 2010. The situation is awful and the authorities don’t seem to be doing anything to tackle the problem, which is now also counting swimmers among the victims…
DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA
A city sprawling into the water, with tension among the people and a feeling that it’s not at all safe – almost a curfew – as night falls. It breaks my heart to see little kids out on the street sniffing glue.
XANGRI LÀ, NEAR PORTO ALEGRE, BRAZIL
Horrible waves during a WQS 5 *, brown water, a crazy current… I went just for WQS points and don’t feel like ever hurrying back.
PORTO, PORTUGAL IN SUMMER
12 degree water, talk about a thermal shock!
JAPAN
I’ve never been there but I’m afraid I never will. Seeing the contamination continuing to spread… it’s tragic for them, and the whole ocean.
