Age: 15
Home: South Coast Barbados.
Sponsors: Rip Curl, Dread or Dead Surf Shop.
I’ve known Lewis since he’s been about 11 and his surfing has come a long way. I always knew he had something special going for him since the day I saw him out in solid Soup Bowl surf when he was just 12, trying to get some of the sets. I was living in Florida when Peter Mendia first told me about Lewis, he said, ‘I saw a young kid who reminds me of you, a little redman goofy footer and he’s one trouble-maker too!’ So I went down to Barbados for a contest and I met the little bugger doing his thing. I decided to get him on my sponsor at the time and from then on he’s just been ripping it up all over the place.
Now he’s on Rip Curl and doing a lot better with the junior program, we’ve been travelling to a lot of places like Indo, Bali, France and all over the Caribbean. His dad is from Barbados and his mum is from France so the background is there and I always told him to use that Euro passport to do something with his surfing, and now he’s in all the Pro Juniors in Europe. His surfing is coming on in strides, he’s already one of the best surfers to come out of the Caribbean, so watch out for Lewis if you didn’t know him already this summer and beyond.
