25-year-old surfer Colin Cook lost his left leg after being bitten by a shark at Leftovers on Oahu’s North Shore.

The attack happened at 10:25 a.m. with he victim suffering critical injuries to his left leg from a bit above the knee, from what witnesses reported as a 10 to 12ft shark.

Shayne Enright of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department said there is no confirmation on the type of shark.

First responders reportedly used Cook’s leash as a tourniquet, which played a vital role in limiting blood loss from a completely amputated limb.

Awake at the time of being taken to hospital, Cook, who works for North Shore shaper John ‘JC’ Carper, is reportedly in a critical condition.
