QUIKY PRO’S BEST BITS

2010
The Quest For 10:  The 2010 ASP year kicked off in Round 1 as per usual; with a solid swell, loads of granules stacked behind the rocks and Kelly Slater turning up, refusing questions on the world title and saying he’s just taking it event by event.
Highlight: Kelly Slater started the year as he would end it, and although getting knocked in the semi’s here, he dominated the year to claim tenth and very convincing world title
What they said: “This sucks!” Dane Reynolds who wasn’t happy with his high tide conditions in round 1, even if Kelly was.

2012
Taj and the Quik: Taj won the first ever Quik Pro at Snapper, back in 2001 and again in 2010, but in 2012 he was the form surfer from the very first heat. It was another victory, which again raised the perennial question; Is this the year for Taj’s World Title? The answer, as ever, was no.
Highlight: Taj’s defeat of a rampaging Dane Reynolds was the heat of the event.
What They Said: “I’ve been going for the ASP World Title for a while now. I don’t know what to say. I just want to surf my best and hope that the rest falls into place.” Taj

Kirra awakened out of nowhere for the semis and final last year, and who could forget about this little drop-in incident and what was one of the most exciting final days of competition the Goldie had seen in a while.

“I was actually hoping Joel’d break his board,” laughed Kelly post heat. “I had priority. He had a good wave. It didn’t matter. If he didn’t go on that wave, I would have taken that wave. It just looked like a big, throaty one.
