Surf Stars Fly back to UK for Saltrock Open This Weekend

The stars of the UK surf scene have been flying back to the UK from all over the world ready to compete in the Saltrock Open over Easter weekend at Downend Point, Croyde, North Devon.

The Saltrock Open is the first event in the 2007 UK Pro Surf Tour calendar. The competition ground will be at Downend Point giving fabulous views across Croyde Bay, but the action can be viewed from all over the beach. 2006 Tour Champion Micah Lester (Aus) will begin defending his crown against what will certainly be strong challenges from the UK’s stars including Alan Stokes, Russell Winter and Reubin Pearce.

The event will feature four main categories: Men’s Open, Pro-Juniors, Women’s Open and the Groms Tour. The Groms Tour includes 3 categories; an Under-12s Open, an Under-16 Boys and Under-16 Girls. The prize purse is £2,000. Entrants should contact the BPSA on 01637 854854 or enter online by visiting the BPSA website at bpsauktour.com.

The Saltrock Open Party will take place at The Manor in Croyde on Saturday night, and this is where all the surfers and spectators will be able to come together and let their hair down so put it in your diary. Top UK DJs JellyJazz will be at the party with their excellent mix of mellow funk and soul, and you’ll be able to get stuck into a BBQ and wash it down with a pint or two of Skinners. The party starts at 7.30pm.

Saltrock has been a prominent part of the North Devon surfing community for over 20 years and remains proud sponsor of this prominent leg of the tour.
