Following his victory at the first Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour event of the year, Rip Curl’s Mick Fanning has grabbed hold of the world number 1 ranking.
Fanning has been favourite to challenge for the Quiksilver Pro title ever since the word go and proved his followers right when he dominated the final proceedings at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast. Fanning smashed past Danny Wills, Josh Kerr and Taj Burrow to make the final against Bede Durbridge in this week’s action.
In a stunning climax, the final saw both competitors hold the lead, with Mick emerging victorious over the White Fijian to claim the first WCT title of the year. Durbidge opened up the Final with a deep tuberide followed by a series of vicious slashes on his forehand netting him a 8-point ride and the lead. However Fanning was not to be outdone, racking in a series of tubes and ferocious forehand bashes to take the lead.
