Reef Europe and Bidarteko Surf Club Beach Clean Up

Reef Europe and Bidarteko Surf Club joined forces today in support of Surfrider Foundation Europe’s Ocean Initiative beach cleaning program (19 – 23 March). Under cloudless skies and a cool northerly wind, conditions were ideal. More than fifty people turned out to help clean up the beach, the majority of whom were members of the Bidarteko Surf Club, including local kids, parents, school teachers, businessmen and women.

The vast majority of rubbish collected consisted of plastic, glass, aluminium cans and polystyrene. The rubbish bags offered by Surfrider Foundation were all filled after an hour and a half of activity and all participants enjoyed an afternoon tea in front of the club, courtesy of Bidarteko.

Reef Europe would like to thank everybody who participated for their time and effort, Bidarteko Surf Club for the opportunity to work together for such a good cause and Surfrider Foundation for creating the initiative. This project not only encourages people to clean their local beaches, but also helps create awareness about the environmental challenges we face today and ways in which we can all do our small part to help make a difference.
