Pipe/Backdoor Charger Tory Barron Signs with Tavik

North Shore native Tory Barron, 26, is a young gunner that brings dedication and a fresh style to the water as Tavik’s newest surf team rider. Barron has been surfing since he was seven years old and knows what it takes to make it.

He grew up amongst the giant swell and big-wave surfers that make this industry notorious and after a short break has decided to get involved with a respected company like Tavik.

Tory has always aimed high and made it a personal goal to make it to the Pipe Masters in Hawaii and become an all around water man. His passion and talent for the sport pulled through as he was one of the top eight Hawaiians to qualify for the Pipe Masters. Remarkably, Barron qualified with a blown ACL. Shortly after his feat, his knee injury required orthoscopic surgery.

It has been nine months since his surgery and with diligent physical therapy and conditioning Barron has positioned himself to make a strong comeback into the competitive scene. “Landing a sturdy sponsor such as Tavik will give me the support and motivation to perform my best now that I am back in the game,” said Barron.

“The boys at Tavik represent the type of company that I am honored to ride for and be a part of. I am recharging my batteries, training for this coming season and promoting Tavik in a positive way. Plus, I have a jacket fetish and their jackets rule. I am stoked to be a part of their team,” said Barron while in California to make his Tavik appearance on Fuel TV.

Tory’s favorite surfing spots are Pipe and Back Door. His most memorable surf experience: “It was 18-20 feet at Waimea Bay and I was out there with McCullaugh Jones and Jamie Sterling. I remember taking off on a huge wave behind a Brazilian guy that was goofy foot. I was free falling behind him under the ledge and I remember seeing him dropping. He free fell right onto my board. It was raining white wash as the whole wave turned into an iceberg of colors reflecting the sun setting in the background. Boards were snapping and adrenaline was pumping as the pull of the spiraling water sucked me down. It was a mental, awesome session.”
