Pat Gudauskas secured his 2nd WQS event win for the 2006 season at the Pantin Pro to place himself within striking distance of WCT qualification.
Pat went into the European leg with high hopes of pulling out a result and he did just that. He won the Ferrolterra Pantin Classic WQS 3 Star in Spain and was awarded $7,000 for his effort. Earlier this year he won the Vendee Pro in France, which was a 4 star. Europe has been good to him and he will be finishing the remainder of the 2006 WQS season brimming with confidence.
Pat Gudauskas defeated countryman Austin Ware by less than two tenths (.15) of a point in the small surf in Spain. Pat had to struggle through earlier heats in the small inconsistent surf and narrowly avoided getting an interference with Aritz Arunuru (Euk) in the 4th round. After making it through that tense heat he went on to win his semifinal by a clear margin with a heat total of 17.50 (8.75 wave average), which set him in position for the championship. He was able to secure the win with lightning quick surfing and an array of solid carves and futuristic moves to capture his second WQS win.
At the moment Pat sits at 25th on the WQS. He has his sights set for Brazil, Santa Cruz, and then the Hawaiian leg to advance his cause. The opportunity is there and Pat is undoubtedly going to hit every event with all guns blazing. Stay tune in the coming months for Pat’s continued performances and look for big things to happen for this young warrior.
