NIKE LOWERS PRIME EVENT GETS SHELVED FOR 2013

It’s been announced that the Lowers Pro prime event has been postponed for this year. Originally scheduled to run April 30 through May 4, event organisers GrindMedia have been unable to secure another main sponsor following Nike’s sudden withdrawal from the surf industry last year. Nike had acted as the event’s title sponsor for the last 5 years.

“We are committed to operating the Lowers Pro at the Prime level to deliver the most value to the surfers competing, our audience, and brands supporting surfing,” said GrindMedia Director of Event Operations and Lowers Pro Event Director Sean Nielsen. “Due to the economic climate and timing of the transition of the former title sponsor, we have not secured a new partner in the title position to operate at the Prime level. The content emerging from the Lowers Pro rivals that of any World Tour event, and we look forward to delivering this experience to surf fans next year.”

So the good news is that what is one of the most popular events and home to much high performance radness on tour is scheduled to return to the same legendary break in May of 2014. For this year, the schedule for WQS Prime events will therefore run as follows:

Drug Aware Margaret River Pro – Margaret River, Australie, du 16 au 24 mars
Coca-Cola apresenta Quiksilver Saquarema Prime (Tentative) – Saquarema, Brésil, du 20 au 26 mai
Mr Price Pro Ballito – Ballito, Afrique du Sud, du 1er au 7 juillet
US Open Of Surfing – Huntington Beach, du 22 au 28 juin
Cascais Pro (Tentative) – Lisbonne, Portugal, du 21 au 27 octobre
Santa Catarina Pro (Tentative) – Santa Catarina, Brésil, du 29 octobre au 3 novembre
Reef Hawaiian Pro – Haleiwa, Hawaii, du 12 au 24 novembre
Vans World Cup – Sunset Beach, Hawaii, du 25 novembre au 6 décembre
