The below clip reveals further footage of Brazilian big wave charger Carlos Burle rescuing fellow tow-partner Maya Gabeira at Nazaré yesterday morning. The female Brazilian big-wave specialist suffered a horrendous wipeout at Praia do Norte after she broke her shin negotiating bump down the face of a giant left-hander.
As you’ll see from the video, Carlos Burle spent a horrific 10 minutes attempting to locate and save his tow-partner, eventually being forced to ditch his jetski and brave Nazaré’s infamous shorepound by swimming Maya Gabeira to the beach. He then performed CPR to bring her back to consciousness before sending her to hospital where she’s recovering well.
With that piece of drama out the way, Carlos then returned to the line-up where he later towed in to what many are claiming as the biggest wave ever ridden.
