Llewellyn Whittaker, Ranked inside the top 5 on the mens Bristish professional tour, takes on new board sponsorship with Viking Surfboards Europe based in Porthcawl, South Wales. Whittaker – originally from Capetown South Africa – found out about Viking Surfboards via his co sponsors Surfboard Tracker.
More recently, Viking Europe snapped up current Welsh Ladies Champ, 21-year-old Jo Dennison, who’s impressive performances of late have made her stand out from the crowd. Whittaker’s involvement in Viking Surfboards is exactly what is needed, to compliment the developing Viking team in Europe.
Whittaker said: “These Viking boards are something else! The guys at Viking have worked really hard to accomodate me, as I made it clear I wanted JP to produce my competition boards. The boys took me down to the new warehouse in South Cornelly, Porthcawl whilst I was working at the surf school, among the stock stood out this 6ft thruster, squash tail and as soon as I picked it up I knew this board had to be mine. It’s never happened to me before when looking at stock boards, because I am really fussy about the shape, rails and feel, so the boys let me add the board to my quiver along with the custom Viking boards I have had shaped by John Purton at JP Liquid Solutions in Swansea using all the Viking specifications including their blanks imported from Brazil.”
Llewellyn is a registered surf instructor and coaches the British team when not competing. He is a popular popular guy out on the Cornish coast of the UK. He said: “These boards are awesome, the teccell blank and the lightness is incredible, when you think of the amount of glass on these boards with a 12 oz rail. I can’t wait for my hybrid parabolic stringer board, using the same teccell blank.”
