Luke Stedman was born into surfing. His father Shane hand-shaped his early boards and their family home overlooks the same Sydney beach that spawned Insight. It was only a matter of time before he found a place within the creative brand’s mix of characters, and for the next five years at least, that’s now secure.
“Insight has always been a favorite brand of mine,” reasoned Steds. “All you have to do is look at the current (Dead Modern) ad campaign to see what a fresh new look they have.”
Boasting his own stylish flair, Stedman will shine within the Insight family, both as one of the world’s top rated surfers, and a key player in the brand’s future vision.
“Insight have not only asked me to ride for them, but to help out with product development, direction and future campaigns, and that is something I will take much pride in doing.”
Steds first joined the WCT in 2003, and last year posted his best results to-date. He nailed a 3rd placing at Bells Beach Australia, and then when it counted most reached the semifinals at Pipeline, Hawaii.
His dramatic do-or-die climax at Pipe was nothing less than stellar. The Australian needed a solid result, and ultimately charged through one of the toughest fields ever, beating many of the world’s most established specialists there, including Tamayo Perry, Fred Patacchia, Joel Parkinson, Pancho Sullivan, and 2001 event winner Bruce Irons.
He also racked up enough points to finish the year rated 25th, confidently sealing his 2007 WCT position. Joining him will be longtime Insight sponsored surfer Kai Otton, for his first crack at the elite ranks.
“It’s going to be awesome doing the WCT with my mate Kai. He is a full rookie this year and I’ll be making sure he can find the contest sites without getting lost, unless he is in my heat… ha!”
2007 is shaping up an awesome year for Sted’s, as well as his mate Kai. You can check out their profiles, as well as watch them compete live each WCT event via www.aspworldtour.com. And expect plenty of proud propaganda from their Insight family, each step of the way.
