Billabong’s Jordy Smith (South Africa) has won his first ever WQS event, defeating a class field to take out the 4star rated Hot Tuna Central Coast Pro in Australia, and pocketed 10,000 USD prize money.
It has been a huge 6 months for the 18-year old South African after being crowed “Triple Crown Rookie of the Year” in Hawaii, winning the World Junior Championships at North Narabeen (Australia) and then voted “Next Big Thing” by the world top 45 surfers in the ASL Peer Poll.
“This is a really big win for me here today,” said Jordy. “I’m looking to qualify for the (Fosters’ ASP Men’s) World Tour for 2008 so this is great boost for my confidence and ambitions.”
