Insight Adds Jason Apparicio to European Surf Roots

“I kick it root down, I put my root down,” sang the Beastie Boys. Rasta man Jason Apparicio was born in the UK, but has carved out a sweet life as a free-surfing gypsy since he took to the waves and found his rhythm in Trinidad. From that Caribbean paradise to countless trips around the region and world, the natty dread has already amassed 8 major surf title covers and things aren’t likely to slow any with his addition to the Insight family.

Competition lured the goofy footer for years, especially on the European tour, and when the waves were good his results shined. Photo trips always highlighted his talent, so the choice to focus more on these was a natural progression. He’s been on trips to Morocco and Senegal this past month, and the exposure is sure to reach you soon in the magazines, websites and DVD’s.

His act is hard to miss. And next month he’ll be in Bali with the rest of the Insight surf team – Kai Otton, Luke Stedman, Warren Smith, Jared Mell, and Made Lana to shoot a new campaign.

Psyched on Insight’s creativity and support of third world characters, like the Jamaican team, ‘Apps’ jumped at the opportunity to join forces and become a true ambassador of positivity and the brand. “The family is small and super tight, which is always the best way,” said Apps. “The vibe is real.”

Like his Jamaican brethren, Apparicio also has the musical gene pumping through his veins, and plays drums for reggae band ‘Nylon Pool’. Check shralp surf #25 at www.shralp.com/surf/ for a recent interview and footage of Jason. Need more Insightful things? Get to know Insight.
