After spending the whole day yesterday waiting for the new swell to arrive, Rip Curl Boardmasters contest organisers eventually announced that Round 3 competition in the Men’s World Qualifying Series event would be postponed until 6.30am this morning.
After monitoring the forecast for today, Rip Curl Boardmasters Contest Director Dave Reed seemed positive about restarting the contest. “The swell charts are definitely showing a new rise starting tonight. We expect clean offshore 2-3ft (1m) waves and we’ll be here at dawn.”
Today will see the start of the best seeded surfers including Foster’s ASP World Tour contender Adriano De Souza (Bra) facing world tour veteran Jake Paterson (Aus) in heat 1. When Round 3 begins, we’ll see the first action by the contest’s top seeds, including Foster’s ASP World Tour competitors Adriano De Souza (Bra) and Adrian Buchan (Aus).
WQS No. 4 Ben Bourgeois (USA) – runner-up in the 6 star WQS event in Japan last Sunday, will start his English campaign in Heat 10 against last year’s European No. 2 Pablo Gutierrez (ESP), Dane Gudauskas (USA) and Hizunome Bettero (BRA).
