DVS Shoe Company is proud to welcome Jordy Smith to the team. Smith, at just 19-years old, hails from Durban, South Africa, has been the focus of the surf world the past six months as a highly coveted young talent. “Jordy’s the most exciting rookie to hit the World Tour since Slater!” said Brandy Faber, DVS Surf Brand Manager.
Smith absolutely crushed the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) in 2007 setting an all time points record with 14,575. His best seven results averaged an amazing 2,082 points per event, which included wins on four different continents. Smith’s other achievements include the 2006 ASP World Junior Championship and the 2007 ISA World Junior Championship. “Jordy has already done damage as a wild card on the ASP World Tour and coming in as the highest seed off the WQS should really help his cause in 08,” Faber added. “I’m really excited to join DVS, they are a great group of people and a core brand. What more could you ask for!” said Smith. Jordy has been busy designing his DVS signature sandal, which will be available at retail in 2009. “I really like putting in the effort in designing my flop, after all it will have my name on it!” Smith added. With the ASP World Title being dominated by Americans, Australians and Hawaiians over the past 30 years only time will tell if Smith can follow in the footsteps of World Champions Shaun Tomson and Martin Potter by bringing the title back to South Africa one day. South Africa has always produced great surfers and it has always been hard for them traveling internationally, but Jordy is leading a new generation of Bru’s that are sure to shake up the rest of the world. One thing that is certain, 2008 will be one of the most exciting years in history on the ASP World Tour!
