Less than a month after announcing to the world via Instagram that he was suffering from cancer, Brock Little, one of the all-time big wave greats, has passed away aged 48. Born in California, Little was 3 when his family moved to the North Shore of Oahu, and was still in his teens when he established himself as a force to be reckoned with in waves of consequence. A standout at Waimea Bay throughout his career, in 1986 he finished fourth in the Eddie aged 19, following it up in 1990 with a second place finish and a performance that has since acquired legendary status. His final public statement was a short Instagram message posted yesterday, which read simply: “Lucky to be surrounded by love.”
