Ireland’s Billabong Tow in Session presented by Monster has been given the amber light with a possible go set for Sunday. The word on the street is that some of the best big-wave hellmen on the planet are flying in to Mullaghmore to be on standby for the mega purple swell. Guys like Kohl Christensen, Twiggy Baker and the Long Brothers are set to join the local Irish lads, plus defending champs Sancho and Eric Rebierre at Mully. The charts are currently showing around 20 feet at 20 seconds, accompanied by strong offshores. Fuck knows how big that is, (Billabong’s Francois Leits says it looks at least 30 feet on the old scale) but it seems a fair bit chunkier than Tuesday’s waves, such as Peter Conroy’s, which were definitely XXL. Richie Fitzgerald, a long time Mully charger and local favourite for the event said, “Bit nervy looking at this for the last 2 days I have to say. It looks like a belter, scary as ahhhhhhhhhh…”
If the charts stay the same, we could be in for a truly historic day in the latest installment in this thing called big-wave surfing. Stay tuned, we are over this like a testicle rash.
