Only 4 days left for the launching of Amstel Surfilmfestibal 9!! We’ve got a last minute surprise for the Japan@Surfilm day at San Telmo Museum, Friday June 3rd.
Takuji Masuda is a great Japanese surfer. He loves thick and big Mundaka; Avalanche, he loves the waves from the Basque Country where he spends a few months a year with his family, sharing the waves and times with the local surfers. Besides this, he is a key player in the most avant-garde surf scene since the 90´s.
He is helping us with Japan@Surfilm project, and he is going to share with us a rare documentary film he did in 2006, Yuzen on Surf. A very special project where he gathers Chiso, the oldest “Maison de Couture” of the world -450 years, 15 generations and family owned- with three of his artist friends (Kevin Ancell, Eric White, and our own Gómez Bueno, from Santander!!), and shapers as Herbie Fletcher. The documentary presents the project, and shows the millenary craftsmanship of Yuzen, the origin of the Hawaiian shirt, and we can even see Yohji Yamamoto surf, talk about surfing, tradition and modernity. A total MUST!
Saturday, June 4th, Gaztekutxa gaua! GRATIS! FREE ENTRY!
Mmmmhhh Basque weather is challenging!! We might get some rain on Saturday, we are aware and we’ve got a cool back up!! A traditional Basque Fronton, where we play pelota- Jai Alai!! But we hope that the clouds will stay away and we’ll be able to enjoy the open-air location, in front of the beach at the Kursaal!
Anyway, the experiment of (surf!) Culture Flea Market is working!! We have an interesting bunch of photographers, such as Cesar Ancelle Hansen from Biarritz, Marc Gasson from Catalunya (amazing shots of Barcelona firing!), La casa de las Algas from Zarautz, Sergio and his super boards from Sublime, La Escalera 10 from Gijon, and of course, the MASTERS of “La Oficina de Hechos” and “Sew´n Sing”!!!
