~ALBUMS~
TURBONEGRO
‘DARKNESS FOREVER’
An incredible live version of the best death punk band ever in the universe, in between happy self-destruction, sado-masochism, political mayhem, with a camp sailor vibe… ideal before going for a surf.
GUNS N’ ROSES
‘APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION’
If the word ‘surf’ had to be associated with one band, for me it’s gotta to be these guys… the band who got me mad about surfing. I often think about how hard ‘Welcome to the Junge’ hit me the first time I listened to it.
NOFX
‘RIBBED’
NOFX, Offspring, Pennywise and Bad Religion were in all those surf videos of my childhood heroes, Shane, Malloys, Sunny, Kalani, Rob. But I don’t listen to those albums with nostalgia, because to me it’s still good music.
OFFSPRING
‘IGNITION’
The first song ‘Sessions’ is from Curren’s part in The Search 2, when he first surfed J-Bay in 1992 (because he’d refused to surf South African comps during appartheid). Flawless, best style ever. The lyrics are about a guy who is mad about a girl, she is so good in bed, but treating him like shit. But she is that good in bed…
DROPKICK MURPHYS
‘DO OR DIE’
Songs that are about the life in Celtic lands, they sound like the Offspring with a colder tone. When you’re from Britanny you got to love this band.
JIMI HENDRIX
‘WELCOME TO ELECTROC LADYLAND’
Some people work hard to release shitty albums, others don’t work at all and produce a masterpiece…all these other bands I’ve mentioned wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for Jimi, he made music fun.
PETER TOSH
‘EQUAL RIGHTS’
Behind the reggae melodies, the lyrics are violent and show the pride of Peter Tosh’s story, it makes me want to go to Jamaica straight away.
RENAUD
‘A BOBINO (LIVE)’
The greatest French singer ever, for his lyrics, his politics, for being so humble, for his sad life. So human, with simple words to describe what each one of us feels at some point: love, death, injustice, revolution, despair, happiness… The greatest of all.
~A BOOK~
I’ll grab Robinson Crusoe. If only Friday was a female…
~A LUXURY ITEM~
I’d bring my knife… Each time I hear about a guy stuck on a island, I see that he is in big trouble because he hasn’t got a knife. Imagine, you can put your knife on a stick and use it as a harpoon to fish, cut wood and start building yourself a palace… and then you make a fire, and all of a sudden you’ve got a surf camp! Possibly attracting mates, and a mate!
