This was shot last march during my trip in Cornwall. This spot is pretty famous and I really wanted to ride that wave! The forecasts were not very optimistic for that Saturday but hopefully, the wind blew in the good direction all day long and that was my first sight of the wave (yeeeeeeew). "This shot was taken with my iphone one evening after work as the sun was setting at a spot called hot pipe. The light was ethereal and sea calm and glassy with moody clouds about. Waves were small but super clean for this area of south coast and these waves were the result of a ground swell sneaking (struggling) up the English Channel. We must all wish we were 2ft tall or shorter when this happens... Well... That's what I dream of..." Photo: Christian Williams.
"Had to send in this shot of the Cribbar, Newquay doing it's thing last October. Drew plenty of crowds onto the headland who were cheering every huge drop made and wincing at every wipeout." Photo: Maddie Taylor.

"Took this photo of this Cornish point break last November. Swell and wind forecast looked perfect...and it was sunny! It was midweek so had to take a half day. Unfortunately 30+ people had the same idea. Despite the crowd it still cranked, I had some of the best waves I've ever had in the UK." Photo: Mark Bracey, Truro

"A very good day of surf in Brittany." Photo: Brieuc Calonnec
"Shot in August somewhere in Europe. I like it a lot because there is a strange visual impression when you stare at it: it seems like it's moving! Riddable or not Riddable? Real wave? Which size? We don't really care, because lines like this are enough to wake up our surfing imagination, and make us dream of the next session." Photo: Oscar Chuberre
"2 pics that I just snapped last week on your doorstep, both taken last weeks tuesday at estagnots bank, one a bit earlier in the morning with the overcast ,the other in the arvo when it had piked up and sun was out... Pablo Cabrera emailed today to ask if iPhone snaps are permitted. The answer is yep. "From la Graciosa island, this day the winds where strong NE and we went to check the famous El Corral. It was horrrible cross shore. We decided to walk a bit and got to this slab. It was just the 4 of us. I was the first one out (that's me avoiding sea urchins!) Meanwhile my friends decided to get naked and tan their willies a while... that is until they saw me catch my first wave at which point they were out there!" Hang on one sec, if you're the one on the rocks Pablo who's taking this photo?
Chris Simpson explains why there's no place like home. "This photo was from one of the best swells we've had up on the north east [of the UK] in a while. Taken last October early morning after driving through the night from Thurso following a week of flatness up in Scotland. We should have stayed at home all along. Pretty sure this is Gabe Davies in there, who quiet frankly rules this spot." Photo: Chris Simpson.

Big waves and big swell get a lot of the attention for their visual impact, as well as general 'holy shit'ness. Basque Country surfer Javier Basurco shot this empty, moody Playa Gris bomb early in winter 12/13. Photo: Javier Basurco
