The Donkey’s Bollocks: Skeleton Bay Off Its Tits

A hopelessly confused combination of images, to be sure, but waves this good have a tendency to boggle the mind. The first swell of the year to wrap around the sand-bottomed phenomenon known as Skeleton Bay — or Donkey Bay, if you prefer — was warmly greeted by a crew including Matt Bromley, Davey and Benji Brand, Granville West, Natxo Gonzalez and Aritz Aranburu, the last of whom only a few days earlier had been getting barrelled out of his brains at Teahupoo, and is currently on a small island in the South Pacific awaiting the start of the Fiji Pro, where he will no doubt also get barrelled out of his brains. The lucky bastard. According to Kai Linder, who’s responsible for the above video, the average distance walked this day was 30km per surfer — which sounds unlikely, but then again so does the existence of 3km-long, perfectly round left-hander on the edge of the Namibian desert.
