2 Bunnies in Bali
As soon as we were back in Europe things didn’t seem to be the same, we both wanted to keep riding this dream wave, explore and have fun. I texted Sylvi: “Let’s go to Indo, you up for it?” Three weeks later we were sitting on a plane, equipped with bunny ears, mermaid tails and a Go Pro, ready to do our second journey together: for “2 Bunnies in Bali / 2 Mermaids in Mentawais” we got some support from Playboy, as both of us had previously been on the cover, and our mission was to report our adventures day by day for their website and magazine.
I arrived in Bali at 11:30 pm. Sylvi welcomed me with a flower lace and we got picked up by a driver to take us to Echolandbali, in Canggu, where we had a room booked. Overexcited as we were we put on out bunny ears and started wondering around the resort. We found a swimming pool and as Sylvi had never tried out her mermaid tail before we had the glorious idea to try it on and swim a few rounds in the pool…at 1 pm!! At some point the Indonesian security guard – who had been sleeping in the reception area – was standing next to the pool to do his night watch, and I guess when he saw 2 girls with mermaid tails and bunny ears on splashing around and laughing their heads off in the usually quiet pool, he must have thought he was on magic mushrooms, so he just turned around and kept sleeping…
The following day was my 24th birthday. It was such a highlight for me!!! Sylvi had organized a whole day full of surprises. We jumped on a bike together and drove all the way to Uluwatu, where she had booked a table in El Kabron, a restaurant overlooking all the Bukit waves, which was beautiful as we timed it for a massive swell and all the waves were maxing out… so spectacular. We chilled there for ages, with amazing food and cocktails, a super tasty birthday cake and good tunes. A bit later we moved onto the famous Single Fin bar, where Sylvi had organized fireworks for me and my favorite song playing right after… wow! That night we stayed in the Puri Uluwatu Villas, owned by a good friend, and we soon moved there for good as it was nice to chill out on the Bukit. To be honest that week in Bali we only surfed once in crappy Canggu Waves, and we spent most of our time diving around, in swimming pools with our mermaid tails, drinking cocktails and getting lost on the bike somewhere in the rice fields… It was just so busy in the water and we knew that we would be going to the Mentawais in a week – where we’d be surfing every day – and it just settled our minds. In addition, I think every surfer knows the feeling when Kuta just sucks you in and doesn’t let you go anymore 😉
