Sometimes, Mother Nature throws down a gauntlet that no one really wants anything to do with, but that someone — anyone — must pick up if any pride is to be salvaged for the human species. The dilemma assumes an almost moral dimension. This, maybe, arguably, was one of those times.

Harsh, we know! And so easy to sit here in front of our computer screens, or there on the beach, beer in hand, and talk shit about others probably far braver than ourselves. The favourite pastime of surfers the world over! Would you have gone? Really though, would ya? I mean, obviously we would have. But would you?
